Packing Tips for Your Move
To ensure a smooth and efficient move, we’ve put together some key packing tips to help protect your belongings and make the process as stress-free as possible.
General Packing Tips
Make sure all essential IDs and important documents are packed securely.
Clearly label all boxes and items with your name and which room each box/item is to be placed in on delivery to avoid mix-ups.
Use bubble wrap to protect mirrors, glass sheets, and monitor/TV screens.
Reduce box volume by using soft items like clothing, bedding, and toys to fill gaps in boxes.
Stack electronics in hard luggage for extra protection.
Wrap fragile items such as glassware and ceramics in bubble wrap.
Disassemble flat-pack (IKEA-style) furniture for easier transport; store hardware in double-bagged pouches labeled for the corresponding item and collated into one box or tub to be kept with you, as these are easily misplaced.
Large furniture items should be cling-wrapped or wrapped with protective sheeting to prevent scratches during packing and transport.
Fill removable drawers with soft items to maximise space.
Pack framed art and glass items face-to-face for added protection.
Crockery & Glassware
Pack plates and saucers vertically using three to four sheets of wrapping paper for added strength.
Cups, glasses, and teapots should be packed upright rather than on their sides.
Books
Avoid placing weight directly on the spines to prevent damage.
If there will be minimal weight on top, books can be packed with spines facing upwards.
Otherwise, alternate spine directions (left, right, left) to distribute pressure evenly.
Use sturdy boxes to prevent collapsing under weight.
Do not pack boxes full of books as this carries too much weight; instead, mix them with other items.
Clothing & Linens
Clothes, linens, and other soft items should be packed in durable plastic sacks instead of boxes, as they take up less space and work as barriers when packing.
Keys & Fixings
Place all cabinet keys, bed/wardrobe screws, TV remotes/ cables, and fixings into a small, clearly labeled box and keep it with you to prevent loss.
Pictures & Artwork
Small framed pictures should be packed upright with wrapping paper or bubble wrap tightly secured around them.
Large pictures and mirrors can be wrapped and packed using a box in its flat-packed form as a protective sleeve.
Lamps & Lampshades
Lampshades are easily damaged; where possible, pack them inside sturdy furniture such as a trunk, ottoman, or dresser.
Alternatively, place each lampshade in an individual box to prevent crushing.
By following these packing tips, you’ll help ensure your belongings arrive safely and in great condition.
